Chowdeck Raises $9M Series A to Expand Across West Africa
Lagos-based food delivery startup Chowdeck has raised $9 million in Series A funding to expand its footprint in Nigeria and Ghana, and launch a quick commerce strategy with ultra-fast delivery powered by dark stores.
Led by Novastar Ventures, the round included Y Combinator, AAIC, Rebel Fund, GFR Fund, Kaleo, HoaQ, and others. The funding will fuel expansion into new cities, scale grocery delivery, and speed up logistics.
Founded in 2021, Chowdeck operates in 11 cities with over 20,000 riders and serves 1.5 million customers, maintaining profitability in a tough, low-margin market. In 2024, it delivered 6x more meals than the previous year—and has already surpassed that total by mid-2025.
The company recently launched in Ghana and hit 1,000 daily orders in 3 months, with a goal of reaching 5,000 daily orders by September. Chowdeck also acquired POS startup Mira in June to boost backend efficiency for restaurants.
While global players like Jumia and Glovo have pulled back, Chowdeck is doubling down, offering local meals and reliable delivery in underserved markets—turning complexity into an advantage.
